“Spaceman” Honored

It's an honor to be notified that my short autobiographical piece “Spaceman” was selected for inclusion in the Best of the Best: 2024 Literary Review, published by the California Writers Club. Order on Amazon.

I'm pleased to announce that Histria Books has agreed to publish my novel. It took nearly eight years to write my first novel, but I did it! There is much work ahead to complete publishing. I look forward to good things with the Histria team and expect The Flower of Canaan to be out in 2025.

Unable to marry each other, Anat suffers from the cruelty of the man to whom she is sold in marriage, while distraught and naïve David wanders in search of an idealized beauty he will never have. Fate carries this pair on separate paths that ultimately transform them. This tale, set in the ancient land of Canaan, strikes at harmful beliefs that afflict us to this day and celebrates the strength and individual spirit required to overcome them.

Presented with the Jack London Award

I was honored for my contributions to the San Francisco Peninsula Writers branch of the California Writers Club. Our little branch of the CWC has taught me a lot about writing!

“The Stone” Appears in Fault Zone: Detachment

When Beryl returns to her farmhouse, she finds her husband dead. What will her lonely life be now that Michael is gone? And how will he change her life? Read my story in the anthology Fault Zone: Detachment.

“Spaceman” Nominated for the Pushcart Prize

An autobiographical sketch of mine, appearing in the anthology Fault Zone: Reverse, was honored with a nomination for the Pushcart, an American literary prize published by Pushcart Press that honors the best "poetry, short fiction, essays or literary whatnot.” Perhaps even the spaceman did not envision soaring so high! Plus, the anthology itself, with my little story in it, was named winner of the 2022 Independent Press Award (IPA) in the Anthology category, a national competition, as well as finalist in the 16th annual National Indie Excellence Awards in the Anthology category. Congratulations to my fellow writers.

Presentation on Publishing

I had the privilege of speaking on my path to publishing my novel to 25 interested writers at the San Mateo Public Library on Thu, Jun 13. My presentation was “Finding a Publisher: A Dating Game—and More.”

Publishing is a game an author plays. I gave my take on the game, what an author has to prepare for mentally and emotionally, and how to be strategic and organized in what may be a complex search. I shared my methodology that helped me identify publishers relevant to my work; eliminate scams from the picture; screen out irrelevant publishers; and track submissions and responses. Being organized is indispensable to the arduous, complex, and potentially emotional task of finding a publisher.
